ABOUT US
Cuidate Ventura County, created to prevent HIV infection in Ventura County Latino communities, is made up of a countywide Taskforce consisting of Latino leaders from the agricultural, business, public health, and non-profit sectors, the faith-based community, the school system and other key stakeholders. The Taskforce has identified and prioritized cultural, social and environmental factors that put Latinos at risk for HIV. The project aims to prevent HIV infection by change norms and physical environments through trainings and media campaigns.
The Taskforce is comprised of about 20 diverse individuals from various sectors, representing a multitude of talents. It’s a dynamic, energetic group committed to making a difference. Some are local experts in HIV prevention and patient care. Many are new to HIV prevention, but realize the need for culturally appropriate, language sensitive interventions for Ventura County’s Latino population. We deeply appreciate the hard work and talents of this volunteer group.

Cuidate Ventura County is facilitated by Ventura County AIDS Partnership.
The project is made possible via a three-year, $120,000 grant from The California Endowment’s Community Health and Elimination of Health Disparities program. The California Endowment, a private, statewide health foundation, was established in 1996 to expand access to affordable, quality health care for underserved individuals and communities, and to promote fundamental improvements in the health
status of all Californians. The Endowment makes grants to organizations and institutions that directly benefit the health and well-being of the people of California. For more information, visit The Endowment’s Web

CUÍDATE Ventura County, created to prevent HIV infection in Ventura County Latino communities, announced the launch of an aggressive awareness campaign on November 18, 2008. The campaign aims to break the silence in the Latino community about HIV and get families talking about the risk factors involved.
“Culture norms, taboos, and myths feed the spread of HIV in Latino communities across the country. Ventura County is no different,” said Jesus Torres, Cuídate’s Social Marketing Chair. “We are working with a community that is being disproportionately impacted by HIV, but one that is ill-prepared to fight it. With this campaign, we will give the tools, resources, and know-how to our Latino community so that they may protect their health.
“We are undertaking a bold campaign where we are urging Latinos to start talking about an often avoided topic,” said Sal Fuentes, Chair of Cuídate Ventura County.
The campaign was developed through local research including surveys and community focus groups.
